TABARD ADVOCATES ANTI-MALARIA EDUCATION AND AWARENESS
Malaria claims nearly 1 million lives annually in Africa, of which over 70% are children. This equates to a staggering average of some 2000 child deaths per day, in spite of the fact that malaria is preventable and treatable. In addition to this tragically unnecessary loss of so many lives, the disease also inflicts massive economic hardship on the entire sub-Saharan region of Africa, totalling some $12 billion US in lost GDP every year.
As owners of the Tabard brand, Acorn Group has been involved in the fight against malaria in Africa for many years, contributing time, funding and resources to a variety of initiatives, including the education of local communities regarding the need for a “full circle” approach to reducing the number of unnecessary deaths caused by the disease in malaria-endemic countries.
Malaria Focus is an initiative conceived by Acorn Group with the intention of keeping malaria related issues at the forefront of public and government awareness throughout the year, effectively from one World Malaria Day to the next. Because Tabard already makes a number of diverse contributions to fighting the disease, the Malaria Focus initiative was also developed as a way of bringing all these activities into a single unified strategy. ACORN GROUP ACQUIRES CARBRO PRODUCTS
For many years Carbro has been an established household name in South Africa, best known for specialised products such as Kettle and Steam Iron Cleaner, Shower-Head Cleaner and “Flush” for washing machines and dishwashers. The range also includes a unique set of Brass, Silver and Stainless Steel polishes as well as established cleaning products like Patio-Brite and Kleentex Over time, Carbro has become well known and trusted for many function-specific products, many of which are made to take care of tasks around the house for which no other product really exists.
After investigating the viability of the product range, Acorn decided that Carbro products had the potential to appeal to a much wider spectrum of consumers and deserved greater exposure in the general trade. Since acquiring Carbro, Acorn has been steadily increasing the presence of the range at store level on a national basis and has a number of long-term supporting campaigns in the pipeline for the brand.
